Vaporizers vs. Other Smoking Methods

Vaporizing (as known as “vaping”) gets its share of local and network news coverage, even with the global pandemic. As more communities give rubber-stamp approval for using recreational marijuana, vaporizers are seeing a boost in fame. Some people believe they are a less risky way of nicotine consumption compared to smoking cigarettes.

The e-cigarette is at the leading edge of popularity to the point where mom and pop vape retailers are popping up in every city and town with a heartbeat. Vaporizers are different than other smoking methods, but the core idea has not changed. Vaporizers are used to distribute THC from marijuana in a method that attempts to reduce the health dangers of smoking.

How Do Vaporizers Work?

Vaporizers are gadgets which heat marijuana to the moment where its active ingredients are circulated in a gas which can be inhaled, while averting incineration (aka “combustion”) and the manufacture of smoke.

Combustion and smoke usually happen at a very high temperature – 446 degrees Fahrenheit – while wholesale vaporizers work at a less extreme temperature range.

The gas or vapor made by a weed vaporizer contains mostly THC, terpenes, and other cannabinoids. Remember, THC is marijuana’s main active ingredient accountable for the high. Terpenes are aromatic compounds that provide weed its scent and taste. When you vaporize marijuana, the compounds get blended, leading to a savory, powerful hit.

Vaporizers vs. Joints

Joints have long been one of the most popular methods of smoking cannabis, but that's likely to change soon, thanks to the advent of desktop or hand-held vaporizers. Minimalism is your only true advantage which a rolled joint has over enjoying weed with a vaporizer. With a joint, all you need are rolling papers, filters, and some weed. You do not have to spend loads of cash on a high-tech, high-maintenance device, and you will not have to worry about carrying any sort of base station, charging cables, or anything else of the sort.

In almost all cases, vaporizers or hand-held vaping pens are the better choice. In the case of a hand-held vape, they are more discreet. When you pull out a joint, just about everyone will know for certain what you are smoking, which is not the case with vaporizer pens because they can accommodate several different kinds of herbs. Vaporizers can also be a healthier choice than smoking joints.

Vaporizers vs. Hand Pipes

Pipes are another kind of device that you can utilize to smoke dry herbs, weed or otherwise.

While hand pipes can result in a lot of fun when used, they may not be the best choice if you are using dry herbs. Like many smoking methods besides dry herb vaporizers, hand pipes depend on combustion. Basically, once you load dry herb into your pipe, you then light it with a lighter or match or turn on the heating element of a more modern device like a Puffco Peak. Because of their dependence on combustion, hand pipes are usually less healthy than any kind of vaporizer.

Hand Pipes can also produce a harsher flavor than any kind of vaporizer, which can be a turn-off for some people. But here is why. With combustion, you always run the risk of dry marijuana burning, which will produce an acrid flavor and could irritate your throat when smoking.

With any kind of vaporizer, there is no such drawback. A vaporizer does not rely on combustion, and many devices include an auto-off function so that you can avoid the risk of the dry herb over-heating.

Convenience is the big issue in regard to hand pipes. If you prefer to use a traditional pipe to smoke your marijuana, you will need to transport your pipe, plus a lighter, and your marijuana with you all the time. With a vaporizer, all you must worry about is herbs and your preferred device.

The only benefit of a hand pipe is that you do not have to worry about losing access to electricity or a battery to power your device. Losing either could prevent you from smoking whenever you desire.

Vaporizer vs. a Bong

One of the most notable comparisons between a vaporizer and a water pipe is that both can be used to smoke a wide assortment of herbs. So, whether you desire to smoke cannabis, tobacco, or another herb, a vaporizer and a bong should fulfill your needs.

Bong Used for Weed

One of the biggest and most concerning drawbacks about using a bong is that it may expose you to chemicals which you may not be ready for thanks to the combustion process. For instance, with each hit you take from your bong, you could inhale a large quantity of carbon dioxide as well as cannabis, which explains why it is common to feel lightheaded.

Portability is another concern with bongs. Usually, utilizing a bong outside your home is very complicated, which means you will not be able to smoke on the move if you opt for this device. Vaporizer pens, however, are extremely portable, making them the best option for smokers who want to utilize their favorite herbs when outside of their home.

For those of us who have used a bong before, we know there is a risk to experience some temporary breathing side effects. Smoking from a bong can aggravate and even paralyze small hairs in your lungs known as cilia, resulting in coughing fits and possibly severe conditions like bronchitis. Because vaporizers heat up the weed rather than burn it, you do not have to be concerned about any potential respiratory effects.
